McNOOB

I just thought it was important and relavent to quote this post of Krae's here for everyone to see... (I may do it on 16t too, but I'm not sure about that yet)

I know this might sound like a bad taste BUT
reading about the recent dramas on the other forum I just can't resist to point out some things about webhosting and maintaining forums

QUOTE("rmcnew")
Before I put the ads up I spent anywhere between 500 - 1000 dollars to keep this place up and I was not making any of it back.

now. it is one thing to say you're spending between 10-15 dollars but between 500 - 1000? I mean these are hardly pocket money how can you ****ing not keep at least some mental track and cannot tell if they are 1000 or 500? what is next? I spend between 10 000 and 20 000 ? but for the purpose of exaggeration I can't tell if they are 10 or 20k? lol.

the16types is hosted on godaddy.com. for running a single forum you don't need much. you need the minimum. 1 MySQL database, PHP support and around 20-30GB/month if the forum is very active. I know because I run a forum that has thousands of users and they hardly exceed 30GB/month. in modern times you can get that for less than 2 or 3$ a month. let's see what godaddy has to offer:

he bought the forum.. like a year ago? or year and a half.

he is probably using the economy plan. you just don't need so much resources. why waste money?

18 months x $3.99 = $71.82 + he bought the forum for how much? $100 I think? then that makes 171.82.

if he is using the premium plan that'd make

14.99 x 18 = 269.82 + 100 = 369.82

nowhere near ****ing $1000.

there is no maintenance. you don't work on a forum every day. you launch it, configure the options and maybe install some modules. you do that once then it's on autopilot. you upgrade it every 3 or 4 months. it's not something you sweat about every day like he is making it to look like. he is being exaggerating his efforts and costs in order to make it look like he is some sort of a web-martyr-master who neglects his real life and family so he can keep up the forum. it's all bull**** and people are buying it like the latest iPod.

It'll be interesting to see mcnew's response to this.

Or perhaps he added the costs of his "sister sites".

Well, he's always refused to actually state the cost of what he initially paid for the forum.
He HAS put some time in in finding features to add, updating, etc...and of course the time spent learning how to do all that. I wonder what he's charging per hour for that....
And he actually does get benefits from owning the forum...well, what would be considered benefits for him. One of which is constantly reminding us that he's spent/is spending so much money to keep the forum running, we should all appreciate him instead of criticizing him. And various people kissing his ass. Another could be an established connection to his "sister site".
So yeah, I wonder if he's including the "sister site" costs along with his "estimate".

Someone should create an account with the username 'McNoob', just to see the response wink - I tremble in fear of rmcnew too it myself, though...smile.

You could create an account using an 'anonymous proxy' and post that stuff biggrin - you didn't hear it from me, though.
