So, I moved in with a new roommate about 6 months ago into a rather nice house about 10 minutes from work. I have since only had one single complaint about where I live and generally speaking, that's pretty good. My only complaint: Right behind the house, about 15 ft from the fence, there's a railroad track. This railroad gets a good amount of use, mainly to and from some logging places... 99% of the time that's what's traveling on the train anyway. I have no problems with the trains coming by at all hours of the day and night. My only problem is that there's a road about 75 yards up the tracks from where my house is. The thing about that is, when the trains are traveling south and coming up to the crossing... they ALWAYS blast the air horn, very very loudly. This just happens to be right next to the window of my bedroom. Imagine this, your first night in a new place, everything's good, sleeping fine, etc... next thing you know you jump about 10 ft in the air when all you hear is a trains horn... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK HOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK!!! OMG the first time it happened I didn't even know about the whole train being that close. So the next day I get out of bed and the roomie is sitting there and looks at me and says, "I think I forgot to mention the train?" I actually laughed a bit and said, yeah but I figured it out. I guess it's not that bad cuz it only comes through about twice a day. Just now I'm laying in bed in front of the laptop almost napping since I'm a tad bit tired and then HOOOOOOOOOOOOONK HOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK!!! as the train goes by. Needless to say I'm fully awake in every way right now...lol bleh, trians suck. I'm gonna use some dynamite on one of the rails so they stop coming through...lol
heh that reminds me of when my friend had a house out in Surprise and the Jets from the airforce base did flybys on the houses like almost every day, then there was the train tracks about a quarter mile away, and finally to make the unholy trifecta two of their neighbors raised roosters for some ungodly reason. Lol I could never get any sleep when I'd stay over at her place.
you need some serious headphones...and/or ear plugs. I'd use both at the same time!!!!
I hope that this doesn't start affecting your systems. Either your body will begin to expect it on time and learn to tune it out...or it will sensitize to it, making you jumpy and hyper aware of your environment, waiting for something to pop out at you at any moment. The latter could do some serious damage to your internal systems over time.
Luckily I never know when to expect them since they come at different times every day.
Luckily?
I once stayed the night at some people's house that collected all kinds of antiques. I slept on the couch in their living room. That's where they kept the clocks. So all night long there were all kinds of ticking going on at different speeds and none synchronized, and bells and chimes at various hours, because none of the clocks were at the same time. I didn't get much sleep, but it was a kind of interesting experience anyway.

Yes, luckily, since I never know when to expect it and it doesn't keep me up thinking about it.
haha, i would have went through that house breaking clocks...lol
About 5 kilometres behind out house we have the train line. They're passenger trains so they're not big and not so noisy, but you can still hear them.
About 10 metres in front of our house we have a busy road (at nearly any hour of the night, including the bizarre hour I am experiencing right now) frequently traversed by very large trucks, buses and hoons. Hyper-industrial area.
To top it off, we're under the flight path of nearly every plane that would care to land at our humble airport.
